Supporting locally led initiatives

The LIFT programme enables local solutions to local issues through funding, technical advice, and support.

Applications will reopen in March 2025. Please note this funding to assist our 15 partner countries with LIFT activities is limited.

PJSP' considers the following when assessing an application:

The topics covered
• The location of the activity
• The wider benefits at the local or regional level, including to people with limited access to justice
• Alignment with PJSP's objectives
• Sustainability considerations, i.e whether the opportunity would likely contribute to local delivery
• Value for money
• Who is providing the professional development opportunity
• Connection to MERL outcomes

Vaka Fund

Support to attend regional development opportunities

This is a targeted travel fund for Pacific Island judicial officers, court staff and lawyers to attend conferences or training opportunities in the Pacific.

Funds for travel are limited. Applications to the Vaka Fund will require nomination from your Chief Justice, Head of Bench, Court Registrar or Law Society President (or equivalent).

Please note applications must now be received at least 8 weeks before the event to ensure sufficient time for planning and logistics.

PJSP makes an assessment considering:

• Applicant’s role and work experience
• If the topics covered in the activity align with the applicant's role – is it a good fit?
• A recommendation by Chief Justice, Head of Bench, Court Manager, Law Society President, etc
• Wider benefits of the experience at local or regional level, including to people with limited access to justice
• Ability and willingness to share the learning locally
• Diversity and inclusion and Leadership potential
• Equity (balance of support across the 15 partner countries, previous support offered by PJSP)
• Able to effectively participate - i.e. language, ability to travel
• Location of the activity – is it a reasonable distance away/cost-benefit?
• Connection to MERL outcomes.

Mentoring

PJSP welcomes applications from judicial officers and senior support court staff who would like to participate in the regional mentoring programme. Any application must first be discussed with and endorsed by the Chief Justice.
