Pacific Justice Sector Programme staff welcomed academic, author and data expert Alison Holt to the Old Wellington High Court building in March to speak about her mahi transforming Papua New Guinea’s judiciary into an e-judiciary.

Alison has spent the past five years working with judges, designers, and developers to bring a digital revolution to the PNG judiciary and her talk provided insights into the challenges and accomplishments of the journey from a paper-based to a connected, digitized judicial environment.

Alison’s presentation included a section on the Judges Portal, a web-based app available on Apple and Android which allows PNG judges a one-stop shop to research cases, access training and webinars, consult digitized bench books and calculate damage claim costs.

Most judges choose to access this resource from their phones, and it’s hoped that the Judges Portal can be rolled out to other judiciaries in the Pacific.
